Global Devaluation of Petroleum: The End of Nigeria?
Is
issuance of certificates the only reason why there are institutions of
education? If not, what else?
The
stage of politics in Nigeria from 1960 till date has been taken by different
characters. What is the best name for the characters? Most of them were or are
graduates of one institution or the other. Even past public office holders in
the country had provided “cooked” certificates of universities in Toronto,
Chicago etc. as qualifications. All in
the bid to be seen as “graduates” for political lootings.
As the
nucleus of finance in Nigeria is built around petroleum, a time bomb is
gathering strength for irreparable explosion and the failure-politicians in the
country are so blind to see it. Two years ago, the solar plane flew around the
world. I was fortunate to see it flying within the Nigerian airspace. I am not
certain the then minister of petroleum in Nigeria and whoever sits in such an
office now understands the future implications of that breakthrough.
Nicolas
Hulot, the ecology minister of France, made an announcement on Thursday July 6,
2017 that from 2040 (23 years to come), sales of all vehicles that use petrol
and diesel (fossil fuel) would not be allowed in France. Only hybrid cars which
include electric vehicles would be legit. This announcement is similar to the
publicity of Volvo on Wednesday July 5, 2017. The automobile company announced
that production of fossil fuel vehicles would be finally stopped in 2018 in all
its production factories. Volvo is now going into only production of hybrid
cars.
Certainly,
before the end of 2018, all major car manufacturing companies in the world (Toyota,
Honda, Volkswagen etc.) would either stop the production of petrol and diesel
vehicles or be a year or two away from stopping such production. The reason is
simple! The European Union, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and
Australia would announce plans to legalise the sales of only hybrid from 2040.
So,
who shall buy the crude oil or any of its other products from the Nigeria
government in the Western world? The answer is simple. Nobody!
So is
education all about memorising ideas or issuance of certificates? As true
politicians in the West are busy thinking and working out the future,
failure-politicians in Nigeria are fertilising hardship, publicising propaganda,
prosecuting dead cases and manipulating election results. Based on these
practically existing reasons, the best name for each public office holders in
the country is failure-politician.
The
DNA of every manifesto of such characters is failure. In case you are in doubt,
represent the prices of garí, rice and bread on from 1990 to 2017 on graphs.
Whatever result you have would be sufficient to my standpoint.
Certainly
by 2040 the importance of the Niger Delta would become leprosy to the Nigerian
government because the reason for holding on to the region in the bid for one
Nigeria would not be dependent on petroleum. Likewise, the advocates of Biafra
too would not be so eager to secede because the global oil market would have
collapsed. Hence, OPEC would become a picnic of no relevance in world economy.
What
will be the faith of Nigerians then? Even now that billions of dollars are paid
daily by onshore and offshore oil companies into the treasury of Nigeria, the
only manifestoes of the failure-politicians in Aso Rock and other states are
tales. The common people are being rewarded with woes and deaths after election
campaigns of lies and deceits.
Would
a sachet of pure water not be more valuable than a hundred litre of diesel by
2040? I can foresee that whoever believes that petroleum would be as valuable
as it is will eventually drink his garí with kerosene.
