Happy New Lies
As the first day of the year in 2021, celebrations are ongoing in almost all parts of the world and tears are the trademarks in certain places. From Australia to Asia, the Middle East to Africa, and Europe to the Americas, a journey of another 365 days has started. Practically and expectedly, certain realities should be visible at the end of every 365 or 366 days. Such include growths, developments and innovations in all aspects of social life; not lootings, propaganda, resource-wasting projects, militarised election riggings, killing of protesters, increase of hunger, unabated terrorism, dilapidated roads, widespread gridlocks, devaluation of the currency and more negatives than the previous year.
For those in the European Union
(EU), without excluding people in the United States, Canada, Japan, South
Korea, Australia and other countries where government exists as a reality and
functions for the common people; not as a fiction, the celebration of a “Happy
New Year” is worthy because of democracy within such nations actual means “the
government of the people,” not the alliance of the oligarchs. For people in a
country like Nigeria, the opposite is the case. Therefore, the applicable
compliment in such a country is “Happy New Lies!”
The use of covid-19 pandemic as a means for misappropriating several billions of naira from public treasuries to private accounts onshore and offshore was unimaginable last year. Despite the purported claims by those in power in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Ibadan etc. that all Nigerians were given palliatives during the several-week lockdown in 2020, millions of people emerged bankrupt and extremely famished from the restrictions to movements and physical business transactions. Inarguably, the so-called palliatives were factiously shared to Nigerians on paper; not physically as it was done in the EU and few other countries.
The year 2021 in here.
Unsurprisingly, the so-called covid-19 has changed to covid-419 in Nigeria. In
every state in Nigeria, it would not be a surprise if by December this year, more
than 35% of the budget would have been spent on the disease from Wuhan, China.
For those in Aso Rock, the budget of the nation would certainly grow thin and
thinner in their fictitious bout or fight against covid-419. Failure-politicians
are full of amusements since Nigeria is endowed with too many of them and the
intent of anything they do is Machiavellian. The sale of the National Electric
Power Authority (NEPA) by Olusegun Obasanjo to private investors after few years
of existence of the public corporation as Power Holding Company of Nigeria
(PHCN) falls into this category. Likewise, several creations of artificial
scarcity of petroleum products for justification of price increase from 1999
till date cannot be taken out of this capitalist profiteering box. Since March
2020, every state has turned covid-419 to state project. It is now the best
platform for looting and treating of imaginary
victims of a pandemic that seems invisible here.
The belief that covid-19 is in
Nigeria could be contested by anyone. If truly there is a right to personal opinion,
then anyone could decide to believe or disbelieve the existence of covid-19 or
covid-419 in Nigeria. I am certain that if what the news reports cover in the
US and the UK is what covid-19 is all about, then more than 50% of the people
in Nigeria would have been in the graves before now if the disease is in
Nigeria. Why? One of the worst healthcare services in the globe exists in Nigeria
and those in public offices are fully aware.
As there is a move to recruit mercenaries
into the army, then more lies must be expected this year. Although in theory
such lies would be branded “public policies,” the goal behind each is for the
good of the oligarchs and the nation’s treasury will be intensely milked with
the help of China and more loans from foreign organisations.
Welcome to 2021, Happy New Lies
to Nigerians!
Another angle to the sad events unraveling in the country called Nigeria.
