Cows are More Equal than Humans

In Nigeria, if you are not an occupier of a public office or an inevitable power broker, you are constitutionally irrelevant. If you are directly involved in electoral campaigns but no public officeholder is connected to you as your skin is connected to your muscles, you are a waste in the land of plenty. If you are not partisan in nature and/or deliberately stay away from the stains and lies of politics in the country, then you are on your own (a.k.a. OYO). Based on the trend of insecurity in Nigeria in the past five years, anyone in the aforementioned categories is a less human to a cow. To emphasis the superiority of Fulani cows to people in the South, West and Eastern parts of Nigeria, the president and the legislature have become deaf to the Fulani herdsmen terrorism. This clearly signifies that cows are more equal than humans.

If you are, in one way or the other, connected to major occupiers of public offices and the favour of government contracts get to you without struggle, then you are relevant and your protection is guaranteed. How many people fall into this category in a nation of over 140 million citizens? Are we all citizens in a state where cows are protected with the best firearms and all units of the police are deliberately ill-equipped to protect the entire country? Are the cows the constitutionally recognized inhabitants of Nigeria? Does the abandonment of the people to the discretion of the gun-carrying Fulani herdsmen suggest that everyone in power is blind? The answers to the questions could be logically derived, if bias is not the nucleus of reasoning.

With the daily record of attacks, arson, murders and destruction of farmlands by gun-carry Fulani herdsmen in almost every part of Nigeria, it would not be wrong to assume that Buhari has privately authorized the security agencies never to arrest or charge any gun-carrying Fulani herdsman for illegal possession of such firearms.

As cattle rearing and illegal possessions of firearms is now the acceptable and endorsed practice among the Fulani herdsmen, more news of murders, arson and destruction of farmlands shall be reported and the so-called president of Nigeria shall remain happy in silence. If anything changes, a recorded video broadcast will be played on the national TV on the matter and the terrorism will continue.
