Nigerianisation of Recruitments

When God created what was later labelled Nigeria, He intentionally endowed its different geographical landmasses which the British colonial lords amalgamated to become what is humanly recognized today as a country. Based on this fact, the creation of what is politically and internationally known as Nigeria has no link with God’s divine identity. It is the work of men – the colonialists! After all, the Creator did not direct the slave traders from the West to direct, manipulate, dominate and nail the African people to the wall of colonialism and neocolonialism.

To make the situation worst, re-colonisation has been the trademark of social life and politics in Nigeria from 1960 till date. Africans enslaving their fellows with laws, capitalism, mercantilism, fascism etc. Therefore, the 1960 independence is a charade.

What then does Nigerianisation of recruitment mean? It simply means backdoor recruitment before any publicity of vacancies on the daily newspapers or the internet. It could also be an ethnic-motivated recruitment. Innumerable examples of such have been experienced in the last two years in Nigeria. In the latter case, most employees are offered jobs where more hands are already in existence. It is not new nowadays that government agencies, offices, or institutions do place vacancy adverts from time to time but it is a common knowledge that in the case of Nigeria, recruitment is what always precedes publicity of the vacancies.

It is only in Nigeria that physically fit, well-educated, and qualified men and women would be denied the opportunity of joining the army or navy or air force or police based one criterion – inability to provide a “reference” from an active or retired senior or highly placed military officer. In Nigerian term, it is called “connection” a.k.a. long leg (this does not mean the physical limb of human body). If anyone is ambitious to join the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) or get recruited as a cadet into the Nigeria Police, he or she must have a long leg. It is the core unwritten constitution of recruitment. Consequently, only those whose applications can be Nigerianised will be recruited. What a best way of building a country!

With long legs, some unqualified officers joined public service years ago. With it, some are in the process of joining the service and some shall be recruited into the system in the future. The logical question is this: Is a long leg superior to all qualifications a potential job seeker should have? If the answer is not affirmative in some parts of the world, it does not require a guess in the case of Nigeria.

Today according to observers, recruitments into government institutions and agencies have become 1,000% Nigerianised and such is most applicable to senior positions. If this is what Nigerianisation of recruitment represents, then the real live meaning is coterminous to all-round falsification.
