Police Terrorism

About seven years ago when I first heard of the acronym SARS, during a tête-à-tête with some friends at a café in Lagos, I felt like a stranger in Moscow. As the chat continued, I was able to understand the meaning of the police unit as Special Anti-Robbery Squad . Expectedly, the name defines the core goal of the squad’s operations – to work against ALL robbery-related matters. Also, if the name of the police team is anything to go by, then raiding of the citizens should never be a practice of the unit. After all, the name of the group is not Special Citizens Raiding Squad. Practically in the past half a decade, anti-robbery operations are hardly the concerns or interests of SARS officers in Lagos. Innocent residents and hikers are now the main goals of their raids. In several locations in the state, the common man is now a prey while SARS officers remain the legal predators. In my experience, more than 35 persons who I know or heard of had been unjustifiably arrested by SAR...

Punishment or Road Construction?

In 2015 when the present occupant of governorship office in Lagos State was campaigning for the office, the main emphasized façade that was packaged, jingled, published, publicised and broadcast about him to his supporters and those who voted for him to be the governor is ACCOUNTANCY. The headline of the news then was this: “He is an accountant!” But what he would be accountable for and to whom he shall be accountable were not stated. For now, let us ignore the word accountability . What exactly is the meaning of ACCOUNTANCY in socio-economic and political development perspectives? In simple description, within the sphere of socio-economics, it means the quality or intellectual skill of making logical policy that leads to the most prudent use and maximization of resources; a decision-making process that MUST keep the society and the economy moving. In modern-day politics , ACCOUNTANCY does not entail inflow and outflow of cash alone; it mainly involves governance decision that would...

Nigerianisation of Recruitments

When God created what was later labelled Nigeria, He intentionally endowed its different geographical landmasses which the British colonial lords amalgamated to become what is humanly recognized today as a country. Based on this fact, the creation of what is politically and internationally known as Nigeria has no link with God’s divine identity. It is the work of men – the colonialists! After all, the Creator did not direct the slave traders from the West to direct, manipulate, dominate and nail the African people to the wall of colonialism and neocolonialism. To make the situation worst, re-colonisation has been the trademark of social life and politics in Nigeria from 1960 till date. Africans enslaving their fellows with laws, capitalism, mercantilism, fascism etc. Therefore, the 1960 independence is a charade. What then does Nigerianisation of recruitment mean? It simply means backdoor recruitment before any publicity of vacancies on the daily newspapers or the internet. It c...

Democratically Fertilized Poverty

In theory, to say that democracy is the government of the people, by the people and for the people is absolutely correct. At least, that is what its beneficiaries and teachers of political science do say. But to claim and believe that democracy is actually the trademark of the past and present occupiers of political offices in Nigeria would be coterminous to stupidity and/or insanity. Are you wondering why the conclusion above is a clear hardline? With confirmed information, it is poisonous to the youth of today that the federal government of Nigeria pays each selected participant in the N-Power programmes a sum of 30,000 naira (82 USD or 69 EUR) monthly. With such a meagre pay, there are troubling reasons to worry.  If the slogan of N-Power which reads: empowering Nigerian youths for prosperity , is true, then, some questions should be asked.  1.     Why are the sons and daughters of the failure-politicians in Nigeria not in the programme?  2....

Two Global Noisemakers

Politics in several parts of the globe exists for different reasons – communism, socialism, democracy, oligarchy, monarchy, etc. and individuals who occupy political positions do so for certain purposes. In a country like Nigeria, looting of public treasury is the core and inevitable goal, no matter the individual . Its usual complement is infliction of hardship. In the case of the United States of America, especially in the case of Donald Trump, two things have been clearly established. One, Trump did everything (which could be anything) to get into the White House in order to destroy anything that has links with the name of Barack Obama. Two, he wants to make a lot of noise with a mindset that the United States is his incorporation and he is the president of the world. The noise in this case, if it is not checked by the US Congress, could lead to a global catastrophe. What specific disaster? A possible Third World War. With Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang and the continued investmen...

Psalm 23 of Nigerian Politics

To start your reading attempt of this article, you may have to switch your mind to the popular Psalm 23 in The Holy Bible because the verses below are readable in the same rhythm. Democracy is my shepherd, I shall always loot. It makes me richer than the voters; it places me above the law. It restores my position. It gives me right to oppress for oligarchy’s sake. Even though I campaign in the valleys and ghettos of hardship, I fear no opposition; for all results of elections shall comfort me. It prepares a vault of dollars on my table in the presence of the people’s cry; it anoints my foreign accounts with euro, pounds, dollars, and yen; my milk overflows. Surely, self-interest and wealth shall follow me all the days of my terms. And I shall dwell in the house of failure-politics, forever. Amen! This is the imperfect inspiration that rings without end in the minds of all failure-politicians in Nigeria. Every day, every minute, everywhere and anyhow, they recite...

Global Devaluation of Petroleum: The End of Nigeria?

Is issuance of certificates the only reason why there are institutions of education? If not, what else? The stage of politics in Nigeria from 1960 till date has been taken by different characters. What is the best name for the characters? Most of them were or are graduates of one institution or the other. Even past public office holders in the country had provided “cooked” certificates of universities in Toronto, Chicago etc. as qualifications.   All in the bid to be seen as “graduates” for political lootings. As the nucleus of finance in Nigeria is built around petroleum, a time bomb is gathering strength for irreparable explosion and the failure-politicians in the country are so blind to see it. Two years ago, the solar plane flew around the world. I was fortunate to see it flying within the Nigerian airspace. I am not certain the then minister of petroleum in Nigeria and whoever sits in such an office now understands the future implications of that breakthrough.  ...
